*Go to Cid's Lab in the Metalworks and talk to Cid to hear comments about the Darksteel Formula you found during the Dark Legacy quest. Raibaht informs Cid that Zeid sent him a letter indicating that he found one of the weapons forged by Gerwitz, the legendary darksteel smith, but it has taken the form of an evil weapon. You must meet Zeid and help him with his task.
You can be on any job from here on.
*Obtain a Darksteel Ingot (only one is needed per group).
*Zone into Ordelle's Caves from La Theine Plateau for a cutscene where Zeid comes up to you and tells you that a merchant who had been in the caves was attacked by Gerwitz's Axe.
<!--**You will also get the cutscene if you warp to the Ordelle's Caves Survival Guide. -->
*Take the east path and head towards ()
*When ready, trade the Darksteel Ingot to the ??? next to the stalagmite and spawn Gerwitz's Axe.
*Kill Gerwitz's Axe and it will drop Gerwitz's Axe (Item).
**Note: If you die and must leave the zone you will need another Darksteel Ingot to repop.
**Note: Gerwitz's Axe has bad evasion and low defense but has near perfect accuracy and can hit pretty hard. <s>(DO NOT attempt to shadow/evade tank)</s>. Successfully solo'd as 75THF/NIN with full Haste Gear; was nowhere near in danger by the time I killed it.
**Note: Gerwitz's Axe's melee attacks have an added Drain TP effect.
**Note: <s>Gerwitz's Axe will not aggro if spawned with sneak.</s>. Confirmed incorrect; popped Silent Oil before spawning, still aggro'd.
*After obtaining Gerwitz's Axe (Item), take the south passage in () which climbs upwards.
*After you finish climbing, head all the way south to the hole at (). Drop down the hole.
*After landing, do not drop off the ledge you land upon. Go slightly north-east to the path at ()and you'll find yourself at () third map.
*Follow the path up the stairs. Go south at the fork until you reach ().
*Spawn Gerwitz's Sword by trading Gerwitz's Axe (Item) to the ??? found between the cluster of stalagmites and the wall.
*Kill Gerwitz's Sword and it will drop Gerwitz's Sword (Item).
**Note: Gerwitz's Sword will use Blood Weapon around 50% of HP and it's not as tough as Gerwitz's Axe.
**Note: Gerwitz's Sword will not aggro if spawned with sneak.
*The final ??? is just a bit farther south, at () in the Morbolger room.
*Spawn Gerwitz's Soul by trading Gerwitz's Sword (Item) to the ???.
**Gerwitz's Soul is a Ghost NM around level 54.
**Note: Gerwitz's Soul will not aggro if spawned with sneak.
*Kill Gerwitz's Soul.
*Exit to La Theine Plateau from the same map at () and you'll get a cutscene, receive your reward, and complete the quest.

As usual, you will have to zone after completing the previous Rhinostery quest.

WARNING: The quest will NOT appear in your quest log until after you trade the Purple Ribbon to Kerutoto, you zone, then come back to talk to her.

Many players continue to raise their Windurst Fame unnecessarily after talking with Kerutoto initially and not getting any update to their Windurst Quest Log. Do not panic and make this mistake; you will know things are going correct when you get the Purple Ribbon from Roberta.

*Speak to Kerutoto who says that if you find a suspicious item, you should bring it to her.
**If you are eligible for the quest Waking Dreams, you cannot begin Blue Ribbon Blues until you have accepted the challenge of Diabolos. *Talk to Roberta at Nchaa's Good Goods in Windurst Woods to receive a Purple Ribbon.
*Trade the Purple Ribbon to Kerutoto in the Rhinostery in Windurst Waters (South), who will give you 3600 gil for it and tells you she will investigate it.
*Zone out of Windurst Waters and zone back in again. Talk to Kerutoto again. Kerutoto gives you the Purple Ribbon back and provides some additional guidance. At this point the quest will appear in your quest log (finally!).
<!--**If you don't have the key item Magicked astrolabe, you won't be able to solo this quest.

__NOTOC__

Chocobo Digging is a hobby in FFXI where adventurers use Gysahl Greens to coerce chocobos into digging up items. To participate, an adventurer should make sure they have Gysahl Greens in their inventory, be riding a chocobo in an eligible area and use either the /dig command or dig from the sub-menu

A chocobo must move a minimum of 2 yalms in any direction between digs and wait 16 seconds before being able to dig again. This delay reduced as your digging rank increases. When entering a zone there is a 60 seconds cooldown before being able to dig. This cooldown decreases by 5 seconds with per rank. Until rank-ups are gained there is a 100 items per real life day limit in effect. Each rank-up grants an additional 10 items per day.

Finally, each zone has a shared item pool with a limited amount of items available to all diggers. Once this pool is empty, no further items may be dug up until the next Vana'diel day.

Skilling-Up
<div class="flex-container">
<div class="flex-container-item-2">
Digging on Horizon differs from retail Final Fantasy XI in that players can expect to receive skill-up messages in their log. This makes it easier for adventurers to track their digging progress. At this time, there is no option within the menus to view what the adventurers skill is however, it can be viewed on the official Horizon website. An adventurer may receive skillups from ALL digging attempts, regardless of their success. No skillups may be gained by digging in an area with an empty pool of items.

Ranking up follows the same pattern as crafting ie the 'amateur' rank is followed by the 'recruit' rank once, level 10 is achieved. Upon ranking up adventurers will notice 3 digging improvements: the daily item limit is increased by 10, the delay between digs decreases and the zone delay before digging can begin is reduced. Please see the table to the right for a breakdown. Any rank with a verification tag is awaiting verification but can generally be assumed to be correct, judging from other players reports on discord.

The final and less noticable digging improvement is an increase in dig accuracy. This increase isn't obviously noticable due to it only being minor and other factors can affect it too (see moon phase below). However, the higher the level of digger, the more visible the increase will become.

Equipment
Whilst chocobo digging requires the use of no equipment, there are several items which adventurers may wish to use to enhance the hobby.
* Chocobo Jack Coat Set - Set increases riding time by 15 minutes.
* Rider's Jack Coat Set - HQ of above. Set increases riding time by 15 minutes. The only difference is the increased DEF and Level Requirement to use the set, similar to the Field Tunica Set / Worker Tunica Set.

Moon Phase
The current Moon Phase plays a significant role in the accuracy of your chocobos digging. As a rule of thumb, the closer the phase is to 50% the lower your accuracy will be. The current moon phase can be checked by using the command /clock.

Generally adventurers looking to make the most profit will dig during a full/new moon as their accuracy will be at its highest. Adventurers who are looking to acheive the most amount of skill-ups before they hit their daily limit will prefer to dig as close to 50% as possible. Lower accuracy results in more dig attempts and thus more chance of skill-ups.

Elemental Ores
Elemental ores are rare, highly sought after items which can be found in digging pools. For reported success rates, see the table below. There are several conditions that must be met before they may be found within an areas pool:
<div class="flex-container">
<div class="flex-container-item-2">
* The adventurer must have attained at least the "Craftsman" digging rank (rank 6).
* The moon phase must be in "Waxing Crescent" and between approximately 7%-24%.
* There must be an active weather in effect in the area. Foggy weather is also considered an active weather effect.
* The zone is not a Rise of the Zilart area.
</div>
<div class="flex-container-item-2">
Dig Attempts
Ores Found
style="text-align: center";| 1120
style="text-align: center";| 5 <!--please add your data to these figures -->
</div></div>

When these conditions are met then elemental ores may be dug up. The type of ore found will correspond with the current day of the week eg. only fire ores will be found on Firesday, earth ores on earthsday, etc etc.

Further Information
HorizonXI's chocobo digging largely follows the ASB code which can be found here, although how accurately is unknown at this time (due to Horizon being closed source). There are some known about key differences, such as changes to item pools which are documented on this page. This page has been written to reflect how adventurers can find the digging on the server and the ASB link should be used as a reference only.

Item Pools
Each area has it's own unique pool of items that can be dug up. These pools are shared amongst all adventurers and once empty, no further items may be dug on that particular in-game day. They refresh at the start of a new Vana'diel day (00:00), at which point items may be dug up once again.

Diggers can also expect to find crystals and crystal clusters whilst digging in areas with active weather in place. Single weather equates to crystals whereas double weather clusters.

See below for a list of each diggable area and it's pool of items. All abundance data listed has been collected on HorizonXI.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my User Page! Looks like you might want to know more about me as a player, which I don't mind sharing; I love the community aspect of FFXI so I'll gladly provide!
As far as Horizon goes, my main character is Sano , and I recently started an alternate character Toshina. I have a ton of prior experience playing FFXI on retail for large periods of time starting from 2005 and onwards.
I am one of the leaders of Second Breakfast (formerly known as MapleBacon), an Endgame LS that focuses on everything except HNM. I love helping people, LS comrades and randoms alike.

tocright
The Horizon Adventuring Assistance Program or HAAP (not to be confused with HARP) for short is a custom Horizon rewards program changes. It's aim is to encourage adventurers who have already completed certain missions and other quests, to help those who have not. In other words, help must be given to an Adventurer who has yet to complete that mission or quest.

By assisting others, HAAP Points will be earned which can then be exchanged for various rewards, including some cosmetic items. To become eligible to earn HAAP Points, adventurers must first visit HAAP.I at Selbina.

How to Obtain HAAP Points
HAAP Points are awarded upon the completion of certain content which have a BCNM type fight attached to them. The points are awarded at the point of the successfully beating the BCNM. For example, if a player wishes to help a friend complete nation mission 2-3, to earn HAAP points they need to defeat the dragon only. They do NOT need to complete all the cut-scenes etc. on the build-up to the fight.

Below is a table of all the known ways of obtaining the points.
