Notes:
Printing out the map from ffxiatlas is extremely helpful
:*Spawned by killing the placeholder Aw'aern in the square rooms in the four corners of the Brand area (Level 2 G-8, I-8, G-10, I-10) of floor 2. The floor number is incorrect on the picture shown.
::*It spawns a few seconds after the placeholder Aw'aern is killed, can be respawned immediately in any of the 4 rooms after death from another Aw'aern. The NM will spawn in the center of the room.
:*It can despawn if left untouched for at least 2-3 minutes. If this should happen, it will become a lottery spawn from placeholders again in any of the four rooms.
:*Depending on where the person with hate when the placeholder was killed is standing, the Ix'aern may or may not aggro him or her.
:*Summons 3 Aern's Wynavs to assist it.
::*The wynavs are BRD, and can use all songs including Virelai.
::*The wynavs will not use Virelai except while under Soul Voice. If you do not damage the wynavs, they will not use Soul Voice.
::*The wynavs cannot be slept, but can be boundverification and gravitied.
::*The wynavs will be resummoned upon death.
:*Recommended tactics: pull the Ix'aern out of the way to avoid links, and kite the wynavs with blinkers.
:*A single person outside of the party can -ga the wynavs to get hate and then run to the teleporter; they will deaggro and wander back to the middle of the room if nobody else has hate on them.
:**The same trick can be used to solo the Ix'aern with BLM, by first DoTing it, then nuking, teleporting after each spell.
:*The player should be cautioned that the Ix'aern has party style hate (similar to Darters in Dragon's Aery). This means that anyone in the alliance that shows aggression towards Ix'aern will cause Ix'aern to show aggression towards everyone in the alliance until everyone has died, logged out, or switched areas. This also means it is not wise to reraise until it has been confirmed that Ix'aern is no longer on the offensive or you have been removed from the alliance.
:* Either a Deed of Sensibility or a Vice of Aspersion drops 100% of the time, but not both where as the Deed tends to drop most of the time.
:*Soloable by a 75BLM using DoTs and zoning through the portals
:*Easily duoable by a 75PLD/NIN and a 75RDM/BLM using Gravity and DoT while the PLD keeps hate and kites(requires hate reset on pets)
:*Can spawn from Aern on death. Had an Aw'aern die => Ix'DRG popped in middle of room => Aw'aern reraised.

Notes:
:*Spawned by trading 1 to 3 High-Quality Aern Organs to a ??? at (G-7) or (I-7) in the basement of Grand Palace of Hu'Xzoi. The ??? does not move, and repops (with equal probability on each side) 5 minutes after the Ix'aern was popped.
:*Using more organs pops more NM's and increases its drop rate:
::*If you trade 1 organ, only the Ix'aern will spawn. (33% drop rate on either item)
::*If you trade 2 organs, a Qn'aern will also spawn (either RDM or WHM). (66% drop rate on either item)
::*If you trade 3 organs, both Qn'aerns (RDM and WHM) will spawn. The Ix'aern will drop a vice or deed 100% of the time.
::*The Qn'aerns use their respective 2-hours multiple times. They will automatically 2hr along with the Ix'aern, even if they are not attacked at all.
::*The Qn'aern are susceptible to Gravity making them easy to kite.
::*The Qn'aerns do not need to be killed, and will immediately die when the Ix'aern does. Someone outside of the party fighting the Ix'aern can kite them.
::*If the Ix'aern is allowed to despawn, the timer for the repop of the ??? will be reset to 15 minutes as if it was killed.

::*It is quite possible to deaggro/depop the Qn'aerns simply by ditching them with movement speed+ gear after popping. It is not necessary to be outside the party in order to do this. However, if the Qn'aerns do follow the popper to the kite room, allow the popper to die and the NMs to head back towards the ???, but not all the way. A Bard can then zombie pull the Ix'aern until the Qn'aerns cease to link. This is a useful strategy for when you wish to low-man the NM yet still pop with 2 or 3 organs.

:*Ix'aern cannot be sac pulled by having someone disband from the alliance before trading the organs. The NM pops claimed and cannot be pulled by anyone outside of alliance. It is possible to sac pull by having the person who spawned Ix'MNK commit two actions (JAs, generally) on another monster. This will cause Ix'aern to go unclaimed, and he may then be pulled without linking.
:*If someone attempts to sac pull Ix'aern (when trading only one organ), around halfway to the Ebon Panel room, Ix'aern will lose interest and head back to its spawn point if the sac puller has run too far away. Because of this, it's much easier to sac pull Ix'aern using movement plus gear (Such as Trotter Boots or Crimson Cuisses) to sac pull rather than Flee.
:*The Ix'aern is immune to Gravity, Sleep, Stun, and Bind but is susceptible to Shadowbind.
:*The Ix'aern uses Hundred Fists once.
:*The Ix'aern goes into bracer mode at 49%, resulting in increased attack power and speed. In the event of a wipe after going into bracer mode, Ix'aern will remain in bracer mode, even if its health has regenerated back to 100%.
:*The Ix'aern/Qn'aern do not reraise when killed.
:*It can be pulled to the nearby Ebon Panels and be kited there with some skill while being manaburned.
:*The Deed of Placidity and Vice of Antipathy cannot both drop from the Ix'aern.
:*It is most efficient to check the west (G-7) side first, and then move to the east (I-7) side if desired. To get from west to east, head south to the ??? in (G-9/10), use it to pass through the one-way wall, then continue around to the east and north.
:*It has around 11,000 HP, although note that this can be extended with a Qn'aern's Benediction.
<!--
:*Can be killed Solo by several jobs at 99.
:*It seems the update of 04/09/2009 introduced a rage timer for Ix'MNK. After exactly 1 hour of fighting, I could barely land any bolts. The ones that did land wouldn't proc, Cannonball missed every time and Ix'MNK's attack speed went up to near Hundred Fists speed (hit me almost 30 times before Perfect Dodge wore off). Confirmation may be required as this may be true as well for the other Ix'Aern.
:*Duo with a THF99/NIN49 and THF99/DNC49 without any problems. No food or buffs of any kind.
:* Soloable by THF99/DNC49 Without too many issues. (RR hairpin and Hydra Kofte used as items only.)-->
**This battle is uncapped. However, buffs and TP wear off upon entry.
**You cannot exit once you enter.
*After defeating Tenzen, you will receive a cutscene and zone into Al'Taieu.

The Fight
*You will enter the Battlefield facing Tenzen (SAM) and the three Tarutaru Chebukki siblings: Makki-Chebukki (RNG), Kukki-Chebukki (BLM) and Cherukiki (WHM). You only need to defeat Tenzen to win the battle; the Chebukkis are invulnerable, evading all attacks and resisting all spells. (They will, however, attack and enfeeble you, and buff and cure Tenzen as they do so.) They all act about once every 20 seconds.
** Kukki-Chebukki casts Firaga II, Thundaga II, Waterga III, Blizzard III, Thunder III, Choke, Burn, Frost, Rasp, Blind, Bio III, Stun, Drain, Sleepga, ? (so level 66-68)
** Cherukiki casts Cure IV, Cure V, Regen III, Haste, Protect IV, Shell III, Silence, Paralyze, Slow, Diaga II, Holy, Banishga II, ? (so level 66-67)
** It seems that they link with Tenzen, so they will attack the first person to engage Tenzen until that person dies; you may want someone other than your main tank to engage first and get the Tarutaru's attention.
*** A Beastmaster jug pet is ideal for this; if the pet is the first thing to attack Tenzen, the Tarutaru will all focus on attacking the pet, and the pet will run over to them to fight back so that your party isn't hit by the -ga spells.
*Tenzen uses a Great Katana and a bow for ranged attacks. He switches between them periodically.
**His weapon skills are different from the ones players use:
***Amatsu: Kazakiri (Tachi: Jinpu(?), ~200)
***Amatsu: Torimai (Tachi: Enpi, 2 hits, ~250)
***Amatsu: Yukiarashi (Tachi: Yukikaze, ~400 + Blind)
***Amatsu: Tsukioboro (Tachi: Gekko, ~500 + Silence)
***Amatsu: Hanaikusa (Tachi: Kasha, ~1000 + Paralysis)
***Amatsu: Tsukikage (~500, closes Cosmic Elucidation)
***Oisoya (bow, ~1800, ignores Utsusemi) (maybe Namas Arrow?)
**He also never "readies" weapon skills, he just uses them, which makes them hard to stun.
*Tenzen will eat a Shogun Rice Ball at some point. This will improve his Attack, Defense, and Magic Defense considerably.
**Often this happens after he uses Meikyo Shisui the first time.
*Tenzen will use Meikyo Shisui at some point, and then begin to to self-Skillchain whoever has hate. After an initial 3 WS, Tenzen may or may not use the WS Amatsu: Tsukikage, an unavoidable ranged Great Katana WS that bypasses shadows, triggering the Cosmic Elucidation Skillchain which deals over 1000 damage to all players in range and triggers ejection from the BC, much like the Snoll Tzar.
**Whether he uses Amatsu: Tsukikage does NOT depend on whether his 3rd Meikyo Shisui WS lands. Even if 3rd WS misses, or original target is dead, he may still use WS Amatsu: Tsukikage and it will STILL trigger Cosmic Elucidation.
**He will use Meikyo Shisui multiple times at will.
**Utsusemi blocks most of his Weapon Skills, and it is possible to recast Utsusemi: Ni between his WS.
***His second Weapon Skill often takes 2 shadows.
**Tenzen's weapon skills can be anticipated with Third Eye including Amatsu: Tsukigage.
**Tenzen can be Stunned out of his Weapon Skills during Meikyo Shisui.
***A Level 75 RDM/DRK could have practical use in this situation for a Chainspell+Stun strategy when Tenzen first uses Meikyo Shisui, similar to the tactic used on Suzaku (or, to a greater extent, the Dynamis Lord). This strategy has not been tested, however; only theorized.
***One or more Blue Mages spamming Head Butt has a very good chance at killing the skillchain alltogether.
*Tenzen will give up when he's close to being defeated, at which point you will win. It is estimated you will need to do between 12,000 and 14,000 damage. He will give up at roughly 15% HP remaining.
*As of the June 2007 update, you will receive 1000 experience points upon winning. (Only once per day)

Strategy Tips
* It seems to be impossible to prevent him from using Meikyo Shisui by hitting him fast and hard. You need to find a way of defeating him after he uses it, by continuing to damage him without letting him land his weapon skills.
* For maximum effect, try to do as much damage as you can before Tenzen eats his Shogun Rice Ball, using your own Skillchains and offensive two-hour abilities (Astral Flow, Manafont, Chainspell, Eagle Eye Shot, etc.).
** On the other hand, it's also good to save some burst damage for when he uses Meikyo Shisui so that you can finish him before he is able to use all 4 Weapon Skills.
* Dispel any buffs cast on Tenzen.
* You don't have a time limit like you did with Snoll Tzar, so you don't need to rush. But still try to do as much damage as you can while keeping everyone alive.
* If Tenzen uses Meikyo Shisui, Bind/Shadowbind him and run out of range to delay his Skillchain for as long as possible.
* Ignore the Chebukkis; they can't be harmed.
* Spread out to avoid possible AOE damage.
* This BC, similar to other maximum spike damage BCs like Maat and Snoll Tzar, is very well suited for WAR since a well-equipped WAR will do 3,000-5,000 damage, depending on duration of fight, even while taking most hits into shadows. A party with 3+ WARs will win this BC near instantly (same for a full SMN party).
* A Samurai, using the standard 5 WS 2HR combo, has been recorded to do 7.1k damage to Tenzen with Soul Voice and double Minuet. Tachi: Yukikaze > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Tachi: Kasha (Light) > Tachi: Yukikaze > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) took Tenzen to roughly 40-45% HP left.
* Samurai/Ranger is a very useful set up for this battle, Tenzen's Evasion seems to be rather low, making it easy to land Sidewinder on him consistently for 900-1,500 damage per hit.
Walkthrough
*Accept the mission by speaking to any San d'Oria Gate Guard.
**Trade crystals to the Conquest NPC to unlock this mission. Two stacks of crystals was enough.

*Speak to Halver. He will tell you to go see Prince Trion.

*Speak to Prince Trion in his chamber for a cutscene.

*Form a full party (recommended level 55-60 or higher), and head for Xarcabard. Castle Zvahl is on the far west of the area.

Castle Zvahl Baileys
*Enter Castle Zvahl Baileys, follow the one-way path until you come to the first intersection. Turn right, head north then west and down a small flight of stairs.

*Turn left and follow the right wall until you reach the next map.

*On the next map, turn right and head all the way to the top right corner of the map.

*Head up the stairs and you will be on the second "level".

*Next, get to the top left part of the map and walk back down the set of stairs and youll be back on the first "level".

*Work your way into the center of the map from here and you will be in an outdoor courtyard. Go back up to the second "level" then through the gate on the right and you'll be in a long hall with a large flight of stairs.

Castle Zvahl Keep
*Inside, walk out of the hallway and turn right. Ahead, you will have to go through a few gates and ore doors. There are a lot of mobs in the area which detect sight, however your party should have no problems disposing of them.

*Once on the second level, you will be overlooking a room below. Follow the narrow path to more stairs and another hallway. You'll eventually reach an area with teleporters. These teleporters take awhile to activate, so just stand on the center and be patient.

*Follow the teleporters four times until you reach a new map. Run to the west/middle of this area and you'll see a door. Passing through this door will result in a zone to the Throne Room.

Throne Room
*You will now have some time to prepare for the fight, run to the other side of the Throne Room and gather up. When ready, check the door for a cutscene involving Zeid and the Shadow Lord, then click the door a second time and enter the BCNM.
**The Shadow Lord has 2 forms. In the first form, he can switch between physical or magical immunity. Take time during magic immunity to rest MP, and hold off on melee attacks while in physical.
**While immune to magic, he will use Dark Nova (AOE Darkness damage) and can cast Black Magic. Dark Nova tends to indicate that he will switch to physical immunity.
**During physical immunity, he can use a variety of TP attacks, including Giga Slash, Kick Back and Umbra Smash.
**Defeating the first form will get you a cutscene. You will immediately be returned to the fight. Rest quickly and get ready for the second form.
**The second form will only use AoE attacks, but has less HP (approximately 4,000 HP). At this point, use your 2hrs and take him down as fast as possible. Curaga should be used liberally here to help counter the AoE damage. He will not rotate immunities like the first form.

*After the second form is defeated, you'll get another cutscene. At the end, you'll be returned to the entrance of Castle Zvahl Baileys. You will also receive the KeyItemShadow Fragment.

*Return to Halver for your reward: Rank 6 and gil.

*Check the door to the Great Hall for a final cutscene involving the royal family.
