Adaptive Effects are attributes of weapons and armor that vary depending on the players current job. This is a custom effect and cannot be found on retail. At first certain pieces of equipment had changes HorizonXI specific changes made to them to include this new effect. More recently, HorizonXI have now started to introduce custom items which make use of this effect.

As an example of how Adaptive Effect works, a sword may bestow +3 damage when equipped while playing as a Warrior whereas playing as a Red Mage and it gives +3 enfeebling magic instead. However, the in-game item tooltips only display "Adaptive" and do not explain to the player the effect. This means that testing is required for each item to discover what the adaptive effect actually is.
