An Appraiser identifies unappraised "???" items obtained from certain Treasures of Aht Urhgan activities. An item's displayed form indicates its broad category, while its stored source determines the weighted pool of possible appraisal results.

Appraisal Process
- Have one supported unappraised "???" item and enough gil for the selected appraiser's fee.
- Trade the unappraised item to the appraiser.
- Complete the appraisal dialogue.
- The unappraised item is consumed, the fee is deducted, and the identified result is awarded through the normal treasure system.
Mechanics
- The possible result is determined by both the type of "???" item and the source stored on that item.
- Results are selected from a weighted table associated with the item's stored source.
- A ??? Sword obtained from one Assault mission may therefore have a different appraisal pool from a ??? Sword obtained from another source.
- In LandSandBoat, all three appraiser NPCs use the same shared appraisal routine. Choosing a different appraiser does not change the item's result pool or appraisal odds.
- Chochoroon provides the same appraisal functionality as Drahbah and Memeroon at a lower fee.

Obtaining Unappraised Items
Unappraised items are awarded by selected Aht Urhgan activities such as Assults. Their source is retained on the item and used when determining the appraisal result.
Assault
- After an Assault mission is completed, the Ancient Lockbox may award an unappraised item.
- The possible unappraised form and its final appraisal pool vary by mission.
- LandSandBoat stores the originating Assault mission on the unappraised item and uses that origin when the item is appraised.
- In LandSandBoat, the unappraised reward is available only when the Assault is uncapped or its level cap is at least the mission's suggested level.
Nyzul Isle Investigation
- Certain enemies in Nyzul Isle Investigation can leave an Armoury Crate containing an unappraised item.
- The defeated enemy determines the item's stored origin and corresponding appraisal pool.
- The same displayed "???" form can therefore have different possible results depending on which enemy produced it.
Besieged
- Chochoroon is among the Al Zahbi NPCs who can be captured by beastmen during Besieged.
