Thoughts on Group 2 Merits

Currently I have no tested anything or even merited them at all. Currently these are first impressions just based on reading the description and talking with other DRKs

Dark Seal

You have to put AT LEAST one point into this. It's a one point wonder and always has been. Per point after the first you also get -10% Dark Magic cast time. Seems like one point does NOT get you the casting time at all.

That would leave me to believe 5/5 would give you -40% Dark Magic Cast time. Which means you would still have a 10% penalty if you casted during Hasso. Feels Bad.

Seems like a 1/5 to me but due to lack of better options probably 5/5.

Diabolic Eye

You lose 15% HP in exchange for accuracy. Seems like 5 minute recast and 3 minute duration.

Never use this at the same time as soul eater for obvious reasons.

I don't know - 95% of the time I can eat meat and still be accuracy capped.

You could 1/5 this and use it in those times you have meat and need an extra boost in accuracy.

It's not COMPLETELY useless. But it's fairly useless for 95% of you gameplay.

1/5 but due to lack of better options probably 5/5 lol

Muted Soul

Just don't. You're going to pull aggro anyway.

Desperate Blows

You heard it right. We are getting Desperate Blows for a second time. We already have it innately as an Era+ buff and instead of giving us something new they are just giving it to us again.

This will give you 2% Job Ability Haste per Merit point, Max 10%, only while under Last Resort just like it works now.

Job Ability haste has a cap for 25%. So with our Passive and our G2 Merit, we can haste cap all my ourselves during Last Resort. MAYBE has some very niche uses.

However, we already have Hasso which gives us 10% Job Ability Haste and we have been Job Ability Haste capped under Last Resort for 3 years.

So this will do nothing 99% of the time.

You could try to do some cheeky things like

  • Turn Hasso Off, Turn Seigan on. Use Third Eye
  • Turn Last Resort On
  • Now you haven't lost any Job Ability haste and can benefit from Seigan.

I don't think it's worth the effort. Just keep Hasso on and Blend.

I'm REALLY hoping in 2.1 they change this to something new. We'll see.

0/5 unless you want to try to be cheeky with it than 5/5 I guess. Don't though - it's not worth the merits.

New SPELLS from TOAU

Drain II

Works very similarly to Drain I, however if you are already full HP than any overheal you receive will instead increase your max HP for 60s for that amount.

For example if you have 1000 HP and are full HP You cast Drain II and do 300 Damage. You now have 1300 HP and are full HP for 60s.

This is amazing for the usage of Soul Eater an Dread Spikes

Absorb-TP

Absorb-TP usage is where an expert DRK can really shine. If you are great at reading monsters and have a good gauge at when they have TP than you can Absorb a LARGE amount of TP very quickly and could maybe even self-skill chain.

However on the flipside, if you cast this while the monster has very little TP. You won't get much TP and you'll have waste MP and interrupted your attack cycle for nothing

Very high skill ceiling spell. I look forward to messing it up over and over with all of you.

Absorb-Acc

Is this TOAU? If so we'll get this too. Does what you think it does. SUCC Accuracy.

Dread Spikes

Dread Spikes is an interesting one. For the record, as of 8/10/2026 as I'm writing this. I have literally never used Dread Spikes and I am going purely off of what I have read about it. Seems pretty straight forward though. Will remove this note once I get the spell myself.

During the effect of Dread Spikes, any damage you take will be instead drained back to you. So you're effectively immune to auto attack damage during it's effect and you are damaging the enemy for however much they hit you for.

The amount that you are able to drain is correlated with how much max HP you have so your Dread Spikes set will have as much +HP gear as possible in it. Additionally, if you can land a Drain II before casting, that is even better.

Absolutely amazing tanking tool. Amazing DD tool for when you pull hate.

10/10 no notes, but I imagine this shit doesn't work on undead so that sucks.

New DRK Gear from TOAU

This section is simply a list of anything new that was introduced in Treasures of Aht Urhgan. This is not a list of gear that is recommended. I just like seeing all the new options in one place. Almost a 100% chance I will make mistakes here. Feel free to add items to these lists that I've missed or remove items that do not belong
