Here is the strategy that my LS has more or less used for the past 8 successful runs:

You can buff outside the arena for all of the fights.

  • Around 14 people is the minimum for a smooth run with minimal difficulty.
  • A minimum of 1 WHM for each party makes travelling a lot quicker.
  • A minimum of 1 BLM is required for sleeping the extra adds when gathering the Eye KIs from the Avatars. Extra BLM are not necessary, as everyone is expected to have some form of personal warp. I recommend owning 2 Warp Cudgels.
  • A minimum of 1 PLD is required for a smooth run, and ideally 2 PLD for Carbuncle.
  • Many SMN is great. We have recently been running with around 7. A suggested party comp is 4 SMN, 1 WHM, 1 BRD for the Avatars, and dropping the WHM for another SMN for the Carbuncle fight. Extra SMNs can be added to the Tank/Melee party.


The strategy for the Carbuncle fight specifically:

As soon as you enter a SMN, tank or DD/NIN should immediately engage Carbuncle and bring it back to just inside the tunnel. Damage Carbuncle down to 75% keeping in mind that some people might take a little bit longer to finish their cutscenes and get into the fight. The first Avatar to spawn can be tanked on the spot and killed. Mages need to be standing out of Astral Flow range for all the of the Avatars. After the first Avatar is down, Carbuncle will reappear and you will continue to damage it down to 50%. At 50% Carbuncle will disappear again and 2 Avatars will spawn. One tank will grab one of the Avatars and begin kiting it in the large room while the other is killed in the tunnel. After the first is dead, the 2nd is brought over and killed. Continue damaging Carbuncle down to 25% at which point the remaining 3 Avatars will spawn. Again one tank will pick up 2 of the Avatars and kite them in the big room. Continue killing them one at a time until the final Avatar is down to 2% (be careful to stop using Blood Pacts at around 15%).

At this point the tank who has been the kiter will kill the remaining Avatar from 2% ensuring to get the final hit. This will cause the 5 final Carbuncles that spawn to be engaged to the kiter. The kiter will kite 4 of the Carbuncles in the big room while the group kills 1. At some point the Carbuncles will use Astral Flow which will kill the kiter. Each person needs to be ready at this point to start kiting if the Carbuncles have chosen them as their target.

While fighting the final 5 Carbuncles, one person (preferably one of the SMN) will call out a specific game time at which all SMN will use Ramuh's Chaotic Strike simultaneously. Ideally the Carbuncle will die from 1 volley of Blood Pacts but may require more depending on how much it is healing itself. Rinse and repeat until all Carbuncles are dead. --Miuna5669 (talk) 06:07, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
