[[Giant Catfish]]: cap at ''31'', they dont stack but I was lucky and my nation had the NPC to sell to at the outpost that is very close by.

Introduction

This Guide is made to be simple. There is a lot that goes into fishing, but you don't care about any of that, you just want to know the path. If you want the extras look up one of the other guides or check out the 700 sections in the fishing section page.

What You Need to Fish

  • You must be level 15 in at least one job.
  • Have a fishing rod equipped.
  • Have bait equipped: Live bait is lost as you use it. lures can be reused unless your line snaps.
  • Water (Fresh / Salt is a thing)

Tools

  • [GreatBlue] :Tells you location / skill / bait. have this bookmarked. If its in Japanese hit the big button up top that says English.
  • HorizonXI Fishing Discord

How Fishing works

  • once you figure out how to equip a rod and bait, and learn what water is its time to fish.
  • The mini game is simple, you can get items, get nothing, get a fish, or a monster. Below are the messages. I think you can tell what ones not to real up.
Small fish: "Something caught the hook!"
Large fish: "Something caught the hook!!!"
Non-fish targets: "You feel something pulling at your line."
Monsters: "Something clamps onto your line ferociously!"
  • When you hook a fish or item arrows point to the direction you need to click. The Fish/item will fight back and move from side to side. Gold Arrows = more HP drain from the fish. Click the right direction HP drains click the wrong and the HP goes up.
    • Oh and if you are far below the skill cap the fish slowly recovers HP, and the reverse is true, if you are far above the fish's skill cap it drains HP.
  • (Fishing Pool Refresh Times): 0:00, 4:00, 6:00, 7:00, 17:00, 18:00 and 20:00.
    • There is a max number of each fish in a pool they slowly restock at the above times.

Gear And Rod's

  • Angler's Tunica Set: HQ set, get it. almost the same price, seconds as a level 15 set of gear and gives a slight increase rate of gold arrows.
  • Halcyon Rod: Your First rod really can be anything. However get the Halcyon asap.
  • Composite Fishing Rod: second rod you should get.
  • Lu Shang's Fishing Rod: final fishing rod you need. Hidden +15 to your fishing skill. Opens up a lot of spots. and nothing will break for the most part until skill 100
    • Get the Lu Shang as fast as you can if you plan to make Fishing your money maker. its worth the 2mil+
  • the 4th Rod is pointless, its a Ponzi scheme. Get it if you want, but I would only do it when you are overflowing with gil. My deep hate for it might also have something to do with me holding the record for most turn- ins on BG for over a year...
    • that is all you need to know about gear and rods. the GP items and The Big One have uses but by that time you are not reading this.
