Walkthrough

1. Speak with Ghatsad in the Automaton Workshop at I-7 as Puppetmaster.
2. Select the available automaton upgrade.
3. Trade the requested materials and payment.
4. Return after the required wait to receive the new Automaton head and/or frame.

You may only have one automaton upgrade in progress at a time.

Frame Upgrades

At Puppetmaster levels 10, 20, and 30, Ghatsad can build one of the three standard automaton frame sets.

Standard frame upgrades are completed at the next Japanese midnight (00:00 JST / 15:00 UTC). This is an Earth-time daily reset, not a Vana'diel midnight. -Confirmed as of 8/23/2026

Head Upgrades

After obtaining all three standard frame sets, Ghatsad can build the specialized magic heads at Puppetmaster levels 40 and 50.

Soulsoother Head	Healing-focused magic head	White Puppet Turban Trade select white magic scrolls to make the process faster. The exact formula/tradable scrolls are unknown, but low cost spells such as Banish, and Barstonra are common options. 192 Barstonra scrolls is enough to reduce the time down to the cap of 2 JST midnight waits. Possible 5-7 JST Midnight wait if you don't interact with the new magic scroll trade system.
Spiritreaver Head	Offensive magic head	Black Puppet Turban Trade select black magic scrolls to make the process faster. The exact formula/tradable scrolls are unknown, Poison is a common option. 200 Poison scrolls is enough to reduce the time down to the cap of 2 JST midnight waits. Possible 5-7 JST Midnight wait if you don't interact with the new magic scroll trade system.

Ghatsad may request Imperial Coffee during the wait for head upgrades if not trading scrolls.
