Historical Background
Alabaligi more than likely comes from the Turkish word: ala balik which is a species of fish in the Salmonidae family (which includes salmon, trout, chars, freshwater whitefishes and graylings). As the name implies, the ala balik is endemic to Turkey. Its natural habitat is rivers and is currently threatened by habitat loss. The Alabaligi certainly matches the description of its Western analog, the Shining Trout.
