Before the outbreak of the Crystal War, Francmage was the head of the Knights Mistalle, a noble San d'Orian family who owned the territory within Carpenters' Landing. He was sent along with Mythril Musketeers Ulrich, Raogrimm and Cornelia to investigate the northlands in cooperation with Yow Rabntah and Iru-Kuiru of Windurst.

After the failure of the expedition, Francmage was murdered within the Bostaunieux Oubliette by Atarefaunet, who had been commissioned by Count Teulomme in order to seize his territory. The circumstances regarding his death were never revealed to the public, as Atarefaunet was "murdered" before investigations could begin.

He is the grandfather of Louverance, who seeks to restore the honor of the Knights Mistalle.
