Edit This wiki - It Really Is THAT Easy!
This guide is a work-in-progress and as such will not fully guide a user on how to edit a page, just yet.
Hello! If you're here reading this then you've already taken your first step to becoming a Wiki editor for the HorizonXI Wiki. I've written this guide aimed at anyone who would like to contribute something to HorizonXI but feel that they cannot. As someone with little 'tech' expertise, I felt the same myself and it took me a while before I gave it a go. Surprisingly I didn't manage to break the Wiki after all! and even if I had, any mistakes made can easily be undone. I'm here to show exaclty how simple it can be and how anyone who's willing to give it a go can be of great service to HorizonXI.
Logging-in
While editing can be done without logging-in, I would always recommend you do. That way any edits you make can be attributed to you. In your profile there are a multitude of preferences that can be changed to suit you. And with discord log-ins, it's incredible simple!
First of all in the top righthand corner if you click where it says "Annonymous" it will give you the "Log-in with discord" option.
Clicking on this will then bring up a discord log-in screen. Either scan the QR code with a mobile device or enter your log-in credentials.
The prompts are self-explanatory. You will know if you have logged in correctly as your discord username will have replaced "Annonymous". Now that you're in, we can start to edit!
How to Edit
Red Links
The first thing you should hopefully notice now that you're logged in is what we commonly refer to red links. It's exactly as it sounds. When browsing pages you will find text in red writing. If you hover over these you will find that they are hyperlinks to pages that have yet to be created. As a new editor there is no easier way to begin than adding in these pages, so that is where we will start.
A quick glance at the White Mage page shows me that at the time of writing, several white magic spells still need to be added. We will begin by clicking on the red link Protectra.
The next page that loads will look like this:
Now don't worry, nobody expects you to write a page all about the spell Protectra! We're very fortunate to be able to reach out and copy pages from retail wiki and yes, this is perfectly legal and allowed. FFXIclopedia uses a CC-BY-SA license which in a nutshell means that their work may be copied but anyone copying it must also allow it to be copied too. For further information on creative commons licensing, please visit the creative commons site. You may wish to give credit to the source of our information but we will be tailoring it to suit our needs, so this won't be necessary.
