The Metalworks is the center of Bastok's industry. A heavily guarded complex containing the refineries, labs and the seat of government. Of special note are the following:

Temple of the Goddess

The Temple of the Goddess, located under the entrance and accessed via a doorway from the Atrium. The mosaic ceiling has it's motif reflected in the carved floor, while the altar is another fine example of artistry.

Elevators

The automatic elevators are powered by hydraulic pressure from the overhead aqueducts in Bastok Markets, and function tirelessly day and night.

Ventilation

The chimneys of the furnaces in the smithys are built inside a larger outer chimney. This arrangement uses the heat from the inner chimney to cause convection currents in the outer chimney, thus ensuring that the air in the whole building is continually refreshed.

Paddle Wheels

Mechanical power is provided to Cid's Lab by giant Paddle Wheels in the upper plaza.

The unique three-level construction allows for conservation of space, ease of manufacture of products, and a highly effective defensive position - shutting down the elevators would leave an enemy no means to access the upper floors.
