Sweets can be classified into four different types, based on the effect they give you upon use. The first type is Confectionery or snacks, they give you a temporary (3-15 minutes) food effect on either MP or HP healing. The second type is Pies and Tarts which offer the user the most Intelligence and Magic Points. The third type is Desserts which vary greatly on Magic Points and Stats. The fourth type is Party Desserts which are slightly weaker to Desserts, but have Group Food Effects; also, only a Master Patissier can make them. All Sweets are considered Mage food because they give the user more Magic Points, or help replenish Magic Points faster. All Confectionery will stack to 99 or 12. All Pies and Tarts stack to 12.
