Historical Background
In Greek mythology, the three Charities (sometimes called the three Graces) were Aglaia, Euphrosyne and Thalia. These were goddesses of charm and beauty in nature and in human life. Aglaia's name meant "splendor", Euphrosyne's name meant "mirth", Thalia's meant "good cheer".
