Historical Background

The Mercy Stroke (called Misericordia) was a deathblow delivered to a seriously wounded knight to end his suffering. Specifically, the Misericord was said to be a narrow Medieval dagger designed for this very purpose, with a blade so thin that it could pierce the gap between plates of armor.
