Historical Background
Trotter was the original nickname that J.R.R. Tolkien decided to give to Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings, and was retained for a long time. Tolkien only decided to change his name to Strider after the story was completed. Whether the naming of the two boots is intentional on SE's part is unknown, but it is coincidental that Rangers are one of only two jobs that can wear them.
