Photograph Procedure
- Speak with Balakaf at Aht Urhgan Whitegate, Map 1 (I-5) on the second floor of Port Ephramad to begin the quest.
- Balakaf gives you the
Image recorder and describes the first scene he wants recorded. - Travel to the corresponding ??? listed below.
- Trade the required Light Crystal or Light Cluster to the ???.
- Select the indicated scene during the cutscene.
- If a particular time or weather condition is required, the picture cannot be taken until those conditions are met.
- Return to Balakaf after taking each picture.
- An accepted picture rewards one Imperial Silver Piece.
- After each accepted picture, change zones and wait until after the next Japanese Midnight before speaking with Balakaf for the next assignment.
- If Balakaf rejects a picture:
- Change zones and speak with Balakaf again.
- Trade him an Ahriman Lens to repair the Image recorder.
- Change zones and wait until after the next Japanese midnight before attempting the same picture again.
- Do not use an Aurora Crystal in place of a Light Crystal. Balakaf will reject the signed picture.

- Pictures 2 and 3 are separate assignments at the same location.
- After returning picture 2, Balakaf comments that it is too dark but still awards an Imperial Silver Piece.
- This does not count as a failed picture, and an Ahriman Lens is not required.
- Change zones, wait until after the next Japanese midnight, and speak with Balakaf before returning with a Light Cluster for picture 3.
Travel Notes
- Wajaom Woodlands:
- From Aht Urhgan Whitegate, use the exit at H-10 to enter Wajaom Woodlands near M-7.
- Travel northwest to the ??? at F-6.
- Arrapago Reef:
- Enter Arrapago Reef through the entrance in Caedarva Mire at I-6.
- Use a Lamian Fang Key on the locked Iron Gate at J-10.
- Continue west to the ??? at G-8.
- Mount Zhayolm:
- The photo point is on the isolated western section of Mount Zhayolm.
- Bring the
Cast metal plate and open the Gates of Halvung at J-7. - Continue northwest and enter Halvung through the zone line at G-7.
- Inside Halvung, cross the bridge and take the first path to the right to return to Mount Zhayolm near D-10.
- Travel northwest to the ??? at C-9.
- Halvung:
- Leave Aht Urhgan Whitegate for Bhaflau Thickets through the exit at H-7.
- In Bhaflau Thickets, enter Halvung at F-8.
- Follow the western path southwest to the bridge containing the ??? at I-8.
- Aydeewa Subterrane:
- Enter Aydeewa Subterrane from Wajaom Woodlands at E-10.
- Follow the path to the first drop, take the right-hand path, and then take the next path to the left.
- The required ??? is northeast of the Olduum ruins at G-10.
- This is not the separate ??? located on the damaged stairway for What Friends Are For.
- Mamook:
- Enter Mamook from Wajaom Woodlands at D-12.
- Descend through the lower passages and continue toward the waterfall on the western side of the zone.
- The ??? is on the ground floor near the waterfall at E-8.
- Caedarva Mire:
- Leave Nashmau through its western gate and travel northwest through Caedarva Mire.
- The ??? is in the graveyard at E-10.
Lost Gold
- After returning the eighth accepted picture, the quest is completed and you will have received a total of eight Imperial Silver Pieces.
- Change zones and wait until after another Japanese midnight.
- Speak with Balakaf again. He recalls losing some gold during his travels.
- Revisit the seven photography locations listed above.
- Arrapago Reef only needs to be checked once despite being used for two pictures.
- Examine each ??? normally; no additional Light Crystal or Light Cluster is required.
- One randomly selected ??? provides an Imperial Gold Piece.
- Trade the Imperial Gold Piece to Balakaf.
- He returns the coin after the cutscene.
- Completing this step allows Five Seconds of Fame to be started.
