Mission Orders

There is a rumor that orichalcum ore has been discovered in Leujaoam Sanctum. Find the ore vein before the beastmen do.

Entry

  1. Speak with Rytaal in the Commissions Agency to receive an Imperial Army I.D. Tag.
  2. Speak with Yahsra at L-10 and select Orichalcum Survey.
  3. The Imperial Army I.D. Tag is exchanged for Leujaoam Assault orders, and the temporary Map of Leujaoam Sanctum is issued.
  4. Travel to the Azouph Isle Staging Point at K-9.
  5. One party member must obtain an Assault Armband from the staging point's Immortal.
  6. Examine the Runic Seal to enter the Assault.
  7. Each participant receives Azouph Fireflies upon entering.

Map and Objective

The entire mission takes place on Leujaoam Sanctum Map 8.

Location Purpose
H-8
Throughout Map 8

Walkthrough

  1. Speak with Mulwahah at H-8.
  2. Mulwahah gives you a temporary Pickaxe.
    • Every party member should obtain a Pickaxe before separating.
    • Ordinary Pickaxes carried in a player's inventory cannot be used for this mission.
  3. Search Map 8 for a targetable Mining Point.
  4. Examine the Mining Point while carrying the temporary Pickaxe.
    • Do not trade a Pickaxe to the Mining Point.
  5. One of several results occurs:
  6. If the Pickaxe breaks, return to Mulwahah to obtain another.
  7. If a Mineral Eater appears:
    • Defeat it before attempting to use the same Mining Point again.
    • Retail-era documentation reports that the worm's body must disappear before that Mining Point can be reused.
  8. Continue examining Mining Points until a party member obtains the temporary Orichalcum Ore.
    • A normal chunk of Orichalcum Ore carried before entering cannot complete the mission.
    • The ore is placed in the temporary-item inventory of the player who discovers it.
  9. After the ore is found, all Qiqirn Miners become hostile.
    • The Qiqirn detect by sight.
    • Use Invisible to avoid them while returning to the entry point.
  10. The player carrying the temporary Orichalcum Ore must speak with Mulwahah at H-8.
  11. Mulwahah takes the ore and completes the mission objective.
  12. The Ancient Lockbox and Rune of Release become available near H-8.
  13. Open the Ancient Lockbox and distribute all treasure before activating the Rune of Release.
  14. Examine the Rune of Release to finish the Assault and receive Assault Points.

Mining Outcomes

The exact HorizonXI mining probabilities require verification.

Result Delivery Effect
Temporary Orichalcum Ore Temporary-item inventory Enables the holder to complete the objective by returning to Mulwahah.
Pebble Treasure pool Does not advance the objective.
Zinc Ore Treasure pool Does not advance the objective.
Nothing found None The party must continue mining.
Pickaxe breaks None Return to Mulwahah for another temporary Pickaxe.
Mineral Eater appears Enemy spawn Defeat or otherwise handle the worm before continuing at that Mining Point.

Mining Point Behavior

  • Mining Points are activated by examining them rather than trading a tool.
  • A Mining Point may be used repeatedly until it disappears.
  • Exhausted Mining Points move to another possible position.
  • More party members allow additional Mining Points to be searched simultaneously.

Enemies

Name Reported Level Spawns Behavior Notes
Mineral Eater Unverified Variable Aggressive
  • May appear after an unsuccessful mining attempt.
  • Retail-era documentation reports that it detects through Sneak.
  • Has relatively low HP but strong and accurate attacks.
  • Uses standard Worm abilities and Earth-based magic.
Qiqirn Miner 76-82 8 Initially non-hostile
  • Begins the mission as an inactive, green-name NPC.
  • Becomes aggressive to the party after Orichalcum Ore is discovered.
  • Detects by sight and may follow by scent.
  • Does not need to be defeated to complete the mission.

Strategy

  • Have every participant obtain a temporary Pickaxe before leaving the entry area.
  • Split the party between the major branches of Map 8 to increase the number of mining attempts.
  • Keep track of Mining Points that disappear so time is not wasted returning to exhausted locations.
  • A player who encounters a Mineral Eater should announce the occupied Mining Point to the rest of the party.
  • Mineral Eaters are reported to have low HP, but their strong attacks and Earth-based magic can threaten lightly armored players.
  • Sneak is not reported to protect against Mineral Eaters.
  • Prepare Invisible before the Orichalcum Ore is discovered.
  • Once the ore is found, avoid unnecessary fights with Qiqirn Miners and escort the ore carrier directly to Mulwahah.
  • The ore carrier must personally speak with Mulwahah.
  • Open the Ancient Lockbox before anyone activates the Rune of Release.
