Mission Orders

A long-haired marid has been found frozen in the eternal ice of Leujaoam Sanctum. Escort Professor Clavauert B Chanoix to the site of the discovery.

Entry

  1. Speak with Rytaal in the Commissions Agency to receive an Imperial Army I.D. Tag.
  2. Speak with Yahsra at L-10 and select Escort Professor Chanoix.
  3. The Imperial Army I.D. Tag is exchanged for Leujaoam Assault orders, and the temporary Map of Leujaoam Sanctum is issued.
  4. Travel to the Azouph Isle Staging Point at K-9.
  5. One party member must obtain an Assault Armband from Nareema at K-9.
  6. Examine the Runic Seal to enter the Assault.
  7. Each participant receives Azouph Fireflies upon entering.

Walkthrough

  1. Move ahead of Clavauert B Chanoix to begin the escort.
    • You do not need to speak with him.
    • Once he begins moving, there is no direct way to stop or control him.
  2. Follow and protect the Professor as he travels toward one of two possible destinations:
    • J-5
    • G-9
    • His destination is selected when the mission begins.
    • He may pause, reverse direction, or backtrack before reaching the destination.
  3. Protect him from the Frozen Bones and Gelid Bhoot along his route.
    • Enemies may be defeated, slept, bound, weighted, or pulled away from the Professor.
    • The enemies do not need to be defeated to complete the objective.
  4. Keep the Professor's HP high.
    • Cure spells can be cast on him.
    • Protect and Shell can also be cast on him.
    • Party-only abilities and spells, such as Magic Fruit and Curing Waltz, do not target him.
    • If the Professor is defeated, the Assault immediately fails.
  5. When the Professor reaches his destination, the mission objective is completed.
  6. The Ancient Lockbox and Rune of Release become available at I-8.
  7. Open the Ancient Lockbox and distribute all treasure before activating the Rune of Release.
  8. Examine the Rune of Release to complete the Assault and receive Assault Points.

Escort Mechanics

The mission-specific escort behavior below is based on original-era documentation and requires confirmation on HorizonXI.

Mechanic Reported Behavior
Starting the escort
  • The Professor begins moving when a player proceeds ahead of him.
  • No direct interaction is required.
Movement
  • The Professor moves independently.
  • He may pause for short periods.
  • He may reverse direction or retrace part of his route.
  • There is no command that causes him to follow, wait, or change direction.
Destination

The Professor travels to one of the following rooms:

Tracking
  • The Professor is reported to appear on Wide Scan.
  • He may move out of visual range while the party is controlling enemies.
Healing and support
  • The Professor can receive Cure spells.
  • Protect and Shell can be cast on him.
  • Party-specific healing abilities and spells cannot target him.
  • Other beneficial effects are reported not to affect him.
Enemy detection
  • The undead enemies can detect the Professor even when players are protected by Sneak.
  • Both the Professor and party members may attract undead through low-HP detection.
Failure condition
  • The Assault immediately fails if the Professor is defeated.
  • Party members do not need to defeat every enemy.

Enemies

The enemy counts and level ranges below are based on original-era records. Current LandSandBoat defines the corresponding enemy templates, but does not currently implement this Assault's battlefield logic.

Name Reported Level Spawns Behavior and Notes
Frozen Bones 73-75 9
  • Aggressive undead.
  • Detect by sound and low HP.
  • Strong against slashing and piercing damage.
  • Weak to blunt, hand-to-hand, Fire, and Light damage.
  • Highly susceptible to Light-based sleep effects.
  • Dark-based Sleep is reported to be ineffective.
  • Original-era records report that they cast Black Magic.
Gelid Bhoot 76-77 7
  • Aggressive undead.
  • Detect by sound and low HP.
  • Black Mage enemies capable of dangerous area-of-effect magic.
  • Strong against physical, Ice, and Dark damage.
  • Weak to Fire and Light damage.
  • Susceptible to Light-based sleep effects.
  • Dark-based Sleep may be less reliable.
  • Original-era records report frequent use of Blizzaga III.

Strategy

  • Assign one player to remain near the Professor and keep him healed.
  • Send one or more players ahead of his route to control enemies before he reaches them.
  • Use Light-based sleep effects against both enemy types:
  • Use Bind and Gravity to prevent enemies from following the Professor.
  • Use Silence on Gelid Bhoots to reduce the threat from area-of-effect magic.
  • Keep party members at high HP to avoid attracting undead through low-HP detection.
  • Sneak may prevent ordinary sound detection against players, but does not protect the Professor.
  • If defeating Frozen Bones, prioritize Blunt such as clubs or Hand-to-Hand damage.
  • If the Professor reverses direction, be prepared to control enemies that were left behind on the earlier route.
  • Use his pauses to restore his HP, reapply Protect or Shell, and prepare the next section of the route.
  • Do not activate the Rune of Release until all Ancient Lockbox treasure has been distributed.
