Peregrine can refer to several things, most often to the bird-of-prey, the Peregrine Falcon, also known as the "Duck Hawk" in North America, or also just simply as "Peregrine". It comes from the latin word "peregrinus", and is a name given (either first or as a Christian name gained during the Sacrement of Confirmation) that means "Wanderer". Suitably so, the first English child born in the "New World" during the colonization of America was named Peregrine White (1620-1704). In literature, Peregrine "Pippin" Took was true to his name of being a wanderer (something thought as odd by the hobbits of the Shire who preferred living calm peaceful lives) and joined Frodo on his quest to destroy the "One Ring" in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy
