Historical Background
The Paper Knife came into existence in the 18th century, and was used for cutting the paper folds in publications so the pages could be read, due to multiple pages being printed on large sheets of paper, and then folded and cut when binding so the pages would appear in order. A bard would use this to learn, and have available, music and lyrics, as often, pages would be missed during binding.[1]
