Historical Background

A suparna is, in short, a glorious winged creature, presumably an eagle. In Sanskrit, su refers to something that is good, virtuous, beautiful, or quick; parNa refers to a leaf, or a feather. So a suparNa would refer to something that has beautiful leaves, wings, or rays (Source).

Suparna is also one of many names given to Garuda.
