Guide
The fight on HorizonXI is not as bad as on retail. Maat RDM is considered easy on Horizon if you go in prepared.
Gear, Items, and Skills
- While not a must have consider getting a Wind Staff if you do not already own one. Its a great item to have for RDM anyways.
- If you're doing the fight prior to the level 70 cap, make sure you have whatever highest Elemental Magic spell's corresponding staff; Water Staff at 67+ or if you're nuts Earth Staff at 66. I would wait until at least 67 for Water III. You do not need them but it will make the fight very simple. So if you have the gil might as well get them. They are a great tool for RDM anyways.
- Do your best to have Elemental Magic and Enfeebling Magic capped for your level.
- Having a few items such as Yagudo Drinks, Hi-Ethers and Hi-Potions.
- Buy some food for the fight. Melon Pie is a decent food. More MP and INT.
- Items will be used as needed. If gil is not a big deal feel free to use them anytime. Yagudo drinks can be used right away to speed up MP during the debuff / resting phase. Hi-Ethers can be used as well as you like as Maat sleeps.
The Fight
- You may wish to run in first and Sleep Maat prior to buffing to stop Maat from buffing himself as well.
- Go in and fully buff up; Protect IV, Shell IV, Blink, Stoneskin, Baraero, Phalanx, Refresh. Eat some INT food, then rest to full.
- Sleep Maat again as needed and debuff him without using any DoT's.
- Once you are ready you will once again check to see he is debuffed. See you have a Yagudo drink on. Get to max Yalm casting distance (around 20 Yalms) and hit him with your highest DMG spell.
- Aero III > Water III > Stone III > Thunder II > Blizzard II
- Keep Silence up 100% of the time. Maat's only a real danger for you if he isn't Silenced when he uses Chainspell.
- If your MP or buffs Blink Stoneskin and such start to break, sleep Maat.
- By this point if you have maxed out skills with staffs he might have called it. If not do a fast Convert right as he sleeps, cure yourself, buff up and wait for his Chainspell to finish off.
- Use Chainspell yourself and just finish him off.
- Again the fight is very simple on HorizonXI, he is very much nerfed, and you do not have to follow the above exactly. Many guides on other wikis warn you about how hard this fight is, but if you go in with some preparation you will be fine. Below is a fight from HorizonXI's Server.
