Investigation Targets

Speak with Hishahma and select one of the following investigations:

Investigation Notorious Monster Spawn Point Branch-Specific Weakness Categories
Lamiae Lamia Deathdancer Caedarva Mire, Map 1 (I-7)
  • A particular sound
  • Low physical strength
Trolls Troll Speculator Mount Zhayolm, Map 1 (L-6)
  • A particular scent
  • Sluggish movement
Mamool Ja Mamool Ja Mimicker Wajaom Woodlands (E-13)

Quest Flow

  1. Speak with Hishahma at K-8.
  2. Select the Lamia, Troll, or Mamool Ja investigation.
  3. Travel to the corresponding spawn point listed above.
  4. Examine the ??? to spawn the selected Notorious Monster.
  5. Attempt to determine which two weakness categories are active.
    • The monster becomes intimidated whenever an active weakness is triggered.
    • Two of the five possible categories for that investigation are active.
    • You do not need to trigger either weakness during the fight. The monster may still be defeated, after which you may guess two answers.
  6. Defeat the Notorious Monster.
    • Do not change areas or allow the monster to despawn.
    • The ??? does not immediately provide another attempt for the accepted investigation.
  7. Return to Hishahma and select the two categories you believe were the monster's weaknesses.
  8. Change areas and wait until after the next Japanese Midnight.
  9. Speak with Hishahma again to receive the result and any applicable reward.

Shared Weakness Categories

Three possible weakness categories are shared by all three investigations:

Weakness Category Testing Method
A particular weapon skill Use different weapon skills and watch for the monster to become intimidated.
A weapon skill used from a particular direction Use weapon skills from the monster's front, rear, left, and right sides.
A particular element Use attacks or spells representing different elements and watch for intimidation.

Each investigation also has the two branch-specific categories described below.

Lamia Investigation

Travel

Branch-Specific Tests

  • A particular sound:
    • Examine the nearby Peculiar Plants after spawning Lamia Deathdancer.
    • The sound corresponding to the active weakness causes Lamia Deathdancer to become intimidated.
  • Low physical strength:
    • Strike Lamia Deathdancer with ordinary melee attacks and watch for intimidation.

Troll Investigation

Travel

Branch-Specific Tests

  • A particular scent:
    • Examine the nearby Peculiar Seed after spawning Troll Speculator.
    • The scent corresponding to the active weakness causes Troll Speculator to become intimidated.
  • Sluggish movement:
    • Pull Troll Speculator away from its spawn point and observe its movement speed.
    • If this weakness is active, it moves substantially slower than an ordinary Troll.

Mamool Ja Investigation

Travel

The spawn point is on an isolated ledge in Wajaom Woodlands and cannot be reached directly from the main portion of the zone.

  1. Leave Aht Urhgan Whitegate for Wajaom Woodlands through the gate at H-10.
  2. You enter Wajaom Woodlands near M-7.
  3. Travel southwest and enter Mamook through the Wajaom Woodlands entrance at D-12.
  4. You arrive in Mamook at J-7.
  5. Cross Mamook Map 1 and take the exit at M-9.
  6. You emerge on the isolated Wajaom Woodlands ledge at E-13, beside the quest targets.

Branch-Specific Tests

  • A particular irritant:
    • Examine the nearby Peculiar Bud after spawning Mamool Ja Mimicker.
    • Examine the bud before leading the monster down from the ledge, as the target may no longer be accessible afterward.
    • The reported irritant message is: A liquid drips from the plant when you touch it, making your eyes blink rapidly.
  • Difficulty landing after a fall:
    • Lead Mamool Ja Mimicker over the nearby one-way ledge.
    • Watch for the monster to become intimidated when it lands.

Rewards

After reporting your answers, changing areas, and waiting until after the next Japanese Midnight, speak with Hishahma to receive the result.

Correct Weaknesses Reward
0 None
1 200 Imperial Standing
2 ??? Box
  • A ??? Box must be traded to an appraiser to reveal its contents.
  • Identifying at least one correct weakness counts as a successful completion of the selected investigation.

Unlocking The Art of War

  • The Lamia, Troll, and Mamool Ja investigations are tracked separately.
  • Successfully complete all three investigations by identifying at least one correct weakness for each branch.
  • After all three branches have been completed successfully, The Art of War becomes available from Hishahma after the applicable quest reset. Verification Needed
  • Hishahma may continue to offer repeat attempts of Finding Faults after the follow-up quest becomes available.
  • The active weakness categories are reported to change at the weekly Conquest Tally.
  • The exact weapon skill, attack direction, element, sound, scent, or environmental trigger may vary between rotations or attempts.
