Walkthrough
- Speak with Gumbah on the upper floor of the house at Bastok Mines (J-7). You need to cross the bridge to find him. Speaking to him will trigger a cutscene involving Zeid.
- The quest Great Sword Weapon Skill quest Inheritance (Ground Strike) seems to take priority over this quest, so it is important to make sure to get the correct cutscene/dialogue from Gumbah.
- Travel to the Palborough Mines (make sure to check your quest log before heading out).
- You can reach Palborough Mines by exiting Port Bastok to North Gustaberg and entering Palborough Mines at North Gustaberg (K-3).
- Head to the elevator at (I-8), which is accessed from eastern side of the river. Ride the elevator to reach the third floor.
- Proceed to the boat at (H-8).
- Get on the boat and pull the lever to zone into Zeruhn Mines and receive a cutscene and the Chaosbringer, a level 1 Great Sword.
- Anyone can pull the lever, you need only make the trip.
- If you drop the Chaosbringer, you may take the boat in Palborough Mines once more to receive another.
- Kill 100 enemies with Chaosbringer equipped. It doesn't matter what you kill, as long as the sword is equipped and deals the final blow with a standard/critical melee strike.
- Once you have defeated 100 enemies, take the blade and zone into Beadeaux for a cutscene to unlock Dark Knight.
- You can travel to Beadeaux as ANY job, not just Warrior or Rune Fencer. The Chaosbringer does not have to be equipped; it must simply be in your inventory.
The 100 Kills
- New HorizonXI level 1 mobs count towards the total as of Patch_Notes:_October_6th_2023. Has been confirmed, see Talk:Blade of Darkness.
- Enemies do not need to give experience points for them to count toward the 100 total, including Too Weak mobs.
- For it to count as a kill, the finishing blow must be made through a regular or critical strike with the Chaosbringer.
As long as the finishing blow is dealt with the Chaosbringer, the method(s) used to damage the monster are irrelevant. - Nothing resets the kill count (other than dropping the blade); you may change areas, jobs, weapons, get K.O.'d, etc.
Not counting towards the 100 kills:
- Weapon Skill kills do not count
- Monsters TP moves which result in killing themselves do not count towards the kill total (such as Bomb Toss (Goblins), Self-Destruct (Bombs) or Final Sting (Bees).
- Job Abilities (such as Jump) that finish off the monster, do not count towards the kill total.
