At some points, players can be offered a chance to "race" a chocobo. This is the A Chocobo Riding Game. You do not have to pay for the ride if you accept the quest, and there is no penalty for not returning the Chocobo where it is supposed to end up. In essence, one can possibly get a free ride from this. This quest is not offered in Aht Urhgan or Wings of the Goddess areas. 
All NPCs will allow you to trade a Chocobo Ticket to ride a chocobo. However, only the NPCs in San d'Oria, Bastok, and Windurst will allow you to trade a Chocopass.
