Funguar.jpg
Although they look like animals, funguars are actually mobile plants that hop like frogs. Lacking eyes, they primarily detect prey and predator alike by sound. Like living chemical weapon factories, funguars produce many debilitating attacks: paralysis, blindness, and poison are among their arsenals. Not all species are aggressive, but those that are prove to be highly dangerous. Therefore, adventurers would be wise to be prepared by bringing Silent Oil when exploring certain areas.

A tan, almost rust-colored funguar family existed many years ago, but appears to have vanished along with so many other exotic animals. These copper-colored funguar dropped a rare type of mushroom that is no longer found on current funguar. Presently, the funguars with which all adventurers are familiar have bright orange caps on a pale white body. Size can vary on funguar, but all behave in near identical fashion.

In spite all the toxic attributes the funguar family has they do have several edible forms of mushroom growing on them. Farming for these mushrooms is a good way for aspiring chefs to get a taste of the varied fungi. From roasted mushrooms on stick to a hearty soup many mages rely on funguars for a supply of magic related delicacies. Certain funguar also drop a very rare and coveted truffle used by master chefs.

The "-shroom" attacks are used in the following order: Queasyshroom, Numbshroom, Shakeshroom. Each attack will consume one mushroom on the funguar's cap. There are three total. A successful steal may remove 1 mushroom from the funguar's cap and possibly change the order of "-shroom" attacks. On Coppercap, successfully stealing a woozyshroom seems to remove Queasyshroom from its arsenal while stealing sleepshroom seems to have no such effect on Exoray. Verification Needed

Historical Background

Funguars more then likely derive their name from the English word fungus, which is directly adopted from the Latin word fungus, meaning "mushroom". This in turn is derived from the Greek word sphongos which literally means sponge.

Funguars have appeared in several Final Fantasies with their first appearance in Final Fantasy VIII. Additionally they were an enemy from Final Fantasy X.
