A somewhat distant relative of the little worms found on fishing hooks, these larger subterranean creatures can be found all over Vana'diel. The entire body of a worm is never revealed; they only emerge from the ground for a short time - presumably to resupply on air before continuing to burrow beneath the feet of beastmen and adventurers alike. While some worms survive by digesting earth, minerals and ore, many are scavengers and will consume the corpses of anything nearby.

Worms appear in two distinct colors: a soft, golden tan to a darkish black-gray. It's not known why there is such variation, but several species of worms are aggressive, and surprisingly they are capable of powerful earth-based magic. Combat is safer once they are silenced, but beware of their ability to silence you in return. As they have no eyesight, worms are easily avoidable with the use of sneak-inducing items and abilities.

Burrowing underground most of their lives means they may eventually consume ores of value. Defeating a worm can yield anywhere from measly copper to a chunk of much-desired darksteel - these little miners are unfortunately the target of many black mage and goldsmiths alike.

If outside of their melee range, worms will cast earth-based spells (e.g. Stoneskin, Rasp, Stonega), and even Bind.
