??? A young prince of the Zilart accidentally comes too close to a mothercrystal and has his Emptiness crystalized within him, giving himself both immortality and a vision of Paradise.
??? The construction of the Crystal Line and Tu'Lia begins.
10,000 years ago
10,000 years ago While Bahamut and his army attack Al'Taieu, a Kuluu force attacks the Vahzl Crag, destroying it. This causes a chain reaction, known as the Meltdown, that almost destroys Vana'diel. The Sea of Shu'Meyo is actually the crater of the explosion.

Religion records this event as the birth of the Five Races and the Beastmen.

After 10,000 years ago While life on Vana'diel slowly recovers from the incineration that was the Meltdown, the new races build their first civilizations. The energy from the explosion slowly finds hosts, becoming the legends of the Celestial Gods:
  • In a great sea-faring nation that once ruled the Gugru Sea, many merchant vessels began going missing. The wealthy merchants blamed the great sea serpent, Leviathan, and set out a reward. Many heroes returned with alligator skins proving they had slain Leviathan, but the ships continued to disappear. Finally retired Admiral Veydal set out. His suspicions proved correct: it was not Leviathan at all, but Sea Morbols. The merchants had been ordering their ships into their breeding waters to save time. But on their way home, the ship came across Leviathan and against his orders, his First Mate ordered an attack. Leviathan sank all but one ship, until Veydal jumped on the creature's head before they both disappeared into the water. Upon returning home, the first mate claimed he killed it, and the celebration lasted days. Until Leviathan beached itself on the shore and died, Veydal's sword deep in its skull. Altana rewarded the two honorable foes and lifted them into heaven.
  • Queen Shiva is overthrown by her uncle with the help of a neighboring nation, which proceeds to conquer it. Her loyal general, Aeomatra, and his resistance try to find the queen to lead them, only to discover her frozen in ice. The soldiers drew their swords and cast a curse drawn with their own souls. Hail and unending blizzards froze the country for years until the Emperor erected a shrine to Shiva trying to end the curse. It was then Altana intervened, ending the curse and taking Shiva to the heavens.
  • The scientist, Ramuh, lived in a civilization advanced in electricity on the Buburimu Peninsula. But then he predicted a great earthquake and tsunami in three days. Instead of taking it seriously, people ignored it, and when the tsunami came, only a few hundred survived. Paranoia gripped the survivors, who believed Ramuh actually caused the tsunami, not predicted it. Ramuh was driven from the country. Decades passed, and the country was invaded by the Beastmen. They turned to Ramuh for salvation and he returned and with the power of a magical staff he had acquired in his exile, destroyed the entire Beastmen naval fleet with a handful of thunder spells. Instead of praising Ramuh, the people feared him even more and he once again fled the country. The country quickly collapsed, and Altana raised Ramuh to the heavens.
  • Back before the deserts swallowed Southern Quon, a race of Beastmen known as Titans ruled the area. Then the Humes came. At first the Titans won easily, but the sheer force of numbers assured Hume victory. After the war's final struggle, a young girl named Daemdalus became lost chasing after a sheep. She stumbled upon a Titan still alive among the corpses, and instead of running for soldiers, she helped the creature to a nearby cave. The two became friends as she treated his wounds, until they were discovered. The Titan was brought to the town square for execution. Daemdalus rushed forward to try to save him, only to pray over his dying frame. Altana heard her prayers and, in a great light, lifted the two into the heavens, in front of the startled crowd.
  • The general Frit was known as a demon, his temper raging like the fires of hell itself. He left no survivors, soldier or civilian, in the lands he conquered, and his tactics cost the lives of many troops. Then in the waning years of the war, those around him noticed his temper fading, and rumors of the girl Falbub began. While going through the bodies of a village he burned, he discovered a crying baby. The baby had stopped screaming seeing Frit above her, and instead raised her arms and giggled. Unable to plunge his sword into her like the others, he gave her to servants to raise. But shortly after the war, survivors struck at his estate, killing all, including little Falbub. Consumed by grief, Frit traveled to a volcano said to be the entrance to the Underworld, hoping to find her. Find her he did, along with all the vengeful spirits of those he had slain. They attacked him, burning him body and soul, until he transformed into a true demon. He stumbled to Falbub, and the ghost of the girl hugged him. Frit prayed for the first time in his life, and his life entered Falbub. Realizing Frit was no longer alive, the souls dragged him down into the lava, his gaze locked on Falbub to the last. The little girl, miserable in her new life, prayed to Altana to be reunited with Frit, and She answered. After he was raised into heaven, people began calling him I'frit, a title of honor.
  • In a tiny country on the Behheru bay, a sickly prince kept many pet birds. His favorite bird was a green bird named Garuda, who always sat on his shoulder. One day, a snake lunged at Garuda, and the sickly prince was bitten on the arm protecting her. Garuda, forever at his side, heard the doctors say he would not live. She flew to the other birds looking for help, and an elderly Akbaba mentioned that the King of the Birds who lived between the stars and the clouds commanded the Vuychap, a magic wind capable of curing all things. Before he could mention that it was nothing but a fairy tale, Garuda tore into the sky. She flew for two days straight up until she came to the border of the clouds and stars, but found nothing. Exhausted, she plunged to earth. The moment before she crashed into the ocean, the image of her love the prince raced through her mind. She outstretched her wings in a desperate attempt to stop herself. As she caught her breath above the waters, she realized she had transformed into a woman. Feeling the new power within her, she flew to her prince's side. After healing him, her joy turned to horror at the realization she will never sit on his shoulder again. She fled in tears. Years past, and the sickly prince, now healed of all his ills, grew into a strong young man. As soon as he was able, the prince left his kingdom to search for the lovely maiden that had saved him. He found his Garuda and she became his wife. After her death, Altana raised up the elderly queen into the heavens and commanded all birds to bow to her as their ruler.
About 1,000 years ago August Adoulin unites the island nations and becomes the Founder King of Adoulin.
The centuries before 1 C.E. Built on the more primitive civilization of Olduum, the Alzadaal Empire becomes the most powerful country during the recovery. It conquers a vast area with its mastery of electricity, robotics and alchemic artificial lifeforms known as chimera. They begin to build a towering robot to house their god Alexander, to bring his power to the battlefield.
900 years ago. The Alzadaal Empire come into conflict with a country that worships their god's hated rival, Odin.
Exactly 885 years ago. His followers, desperate to stop Alzadaal, perform a human sacrifice to summon Odin. Odin and Alexander clash, destroying each other's vessels, and everything else for thousands of miles. Alzadaal is no more. From the view of the Middle Lands, a brilliant flash of light races across the sky followed by a cataclysmic storm. It takes a full year for the sun to return. Its return marks year 1 of the Crystal Era (C.E.).

The Age of Beasts

Year Events
Since 10,000 years ago While empires rise and fall elsewhere, the Middle Lands, once the center of Zilart power, is nothing but a forgotten backwater. With no functioning technology to rebuild on, it has nothing worth conquest by outside forces. Internally, its various tribes and races are too busy killing each other to bother looking outside its borders. This entire era of war is known as The Age of Beasts. The Galka and Mithra build the first stable nations in the region. Humes are relatively unknown in the Middle Lands and the Elvaan are divided into dark ages-style tribes. The nomadic Tarutaru tribes are at the mercy of their neighbors. Then, according to legend, a great star leads the Tarutaru tribes to Windurst in the pre-Crystal Era.
C.E. ??? The war between the Galka of Zepwell Island and the Antica beastmen begins by accident.
C.E. 219
  • While out exploring, a young Tarutaru girl named Rimilala wanders into one of the mysterious towers scattered across the outskirts of Windurst and ventures into the Inner Horutoto Ruins. As she journeys into the depths of the ruins, Rimilala loses her way and keeps on wandering deeper and deeper into the ruins, until eventually she comes upon a fountain. At this fountain, the power of magic is bestowed upon Rimilala and she is given a vision, in which she sees the future of her people, the Tarutaru, for hundreds of years to come. She then makes her way out of the ruins and goes back to Windurst, where she shares her newfound knowledge and wisdom with her people.
  • As Rimilala shares her wisdom with her people and teaches them of the ways of magic, she ushers in a new era for Windurst, who look up to her as a leader and even believe her to be Altana incarnate. She is given the title of Star Sibyl and becomes the spiritual leader of Windurst (although she holds no political power, as the Tarutaru are still divided into five tribes that are ruled individually).
  • With the advent of magic, the Tarutaru are able to overcome the threat of the Yagudo and become a world power. With the beastmen's dominion over Vana'diel weakened, the Age of Beasts comes to an end, replaced by the Age of Magic.

The Age of Magic

C.E. 290 Mounting tension between the four Tarutaru tribes:

Star Sibyl Tabilolo dies. Tukuku is named to succeed Star Sibyl Tabilolo, however, not one Tarutaru chieftain attended the rite of succession of the Star Sibyl; the advent of magic had escalated conflicts between the tribes to new heights.

C.E. 291

The Quadav launch an offensive on the Coumlaud, an Elvaan tribe that dominated Central Quon, using it as a hunting ground, led by King Du'Dha himself. The Quadav are victorious against the Coumlaud in Derfland.

C.E. 294 Star Sibyl Tukuku appears at the site of a major battle between two Tarutaru tribal alliances, and casts a powerful spell that stuns both sides of the conflict. She then gathers all of the chieftains and strongly urges them to unite as one nation. After three days and three nights of negotiations, the Federation of Windurst is established.
C.E. 298 Star Sibyl Tukuku dies.
Late 200s~Early 300s C.E. The Galka lose their war with the Antica and the survivors flee through the cave systems that connect Zepwell Island to Quon. All the Galka who flee through Kuftal Tunnel are completely massacred. The Galka who take Korroloka Tunnel take heavy losses, but a few thousand make it to modern-day Bastok.
C.E. 342 Lungo-Nango is born in the Federation of Windurst.
C.E. 3??-373

Lungo-Nango discovers his talent as a beastmaster and becomes a Combat Caster after a fallout with Windurst's School of Magic. He petitions to the Parliament of Patriarchs for the subjugation of the Elvaan tribes who laid waste to the Norvallen region and builds an army to deal with Elvaan insurgents. Lungo-Nango pens a work known as the "Grimoire", a text that would later become an irreplaceable resource of the proponents of the Schultz School of Martial Theory.

C.E. 373 Lungo-Nango performs a successful invasion of the Elvaan-occupied Southern Quon.
C.E. 373-376

Lungo-Nango receives the title of Warlock Warlord, an honor that was bestowed upon him unconventionally from the countless victories that he had achieved. As Warlock Warlord, Lungo-Nango sweeps across the Quon continent with decisive force, subduing its varied inhabitants.

C.E. 371 Samariri is born in the Federation of Windurst.
C.E. 376

Lungo-Nango is declared a hero for his conquest in the Quon continent and is called back to the capital for a victory parade. The Parliament of Patriarchs accuses Lungo-Nango of insubordination and removes him from his post, thus dissolving his armies and stripping him of his status. He subsequently disappears from the public eye in a state of despondency. After Lungo-Nango's death, the mages of Windurst narrow their research to the study of pure magic, and Lungo-Nango's brilliant magical, martial tactics were all but forgotten.

C.E. 381 The Elvaan and Quadav Alliance
  • Chief Lanfeaur of the San d'Orian Tribe travels to Beadeaux to meet with the Quadav leader, King Du'Dha.

  • The Quadav lure the Windurstian armies into Pashhow Marshlands, where the united San d'Orian and Quadav forces surround and defeat them.
C.E. ??? The Kingdom of San d'Oria is established with Lanfeaur d'Oraguille as its first ruler.
C.E. ??? The Poroggos
  • Feeling sorry for the toads that were often trampled on the paths of Windurst Waters, the eccentric "frog princess" Samariri uses a forbidden spell to increase the size of their tiny bodies and allow them to walk on two feet. Thus the Poroggo race was born.
  • After a short period of time, Poroggos master the common tongue and even begin to dabble in the realm of magic. Pandemonium ensues when the inhabitants of Windurst discover their city is being inhabited by the frog-like Poroggo beastmen.
  • The Federation military is dispatched to eliminate the Poroggos. They are successful in removing the Poroggos from Windurst, but they do not succeed in completely wiping out the Poroggo race.
C.E. 404 Samariri dies.
C.E. ??? With the art of magic now known to all the people of Vana'diel-–even beastmen-–the Tarutaru, filled with regret, enter an era of isolation. They close their borders to all but their longtime friends, the Mithra. Over time, the once-proud civilization would become more and more out of touch with the rest of the world.

Later, he leaves an inscription on a slab of stone in the southern area of East Ronfaure (near the site that would become the tomb of the future King Ranperre) telling of his time at the Autumn Hunting Festival as well as the potential damage that may be done to Ronfaure's ecosystem due to the Elvaan's extensive hunting and introduction of new animals into the environment.

  • The Northlands Expedition
    • An expedition team consisting of Raogrimm, Cornelia, and Ulrich, of Bastok; Francmage of San d'Oria; and Iru-Kuiru and Yow Rabntah of Windurst sets out from San d'Oria on their journey to the northlands.
    • As the expedition team ventures through Xarcabard, Ulrich suggests that the party split in two, with he and Raogrimm searching in one direction while the remaining four would search in the other. Ulrich takes Raogrimm down deep into the chasms of the glacier, then suddenly he turns his sword on Raogrimm. He had apparently been plotting Raogrimm's demise since they first arrived, because of Ulrich's jealousy of Cornelia favoring Raogrimm over him. Ulrich prepares to deliver the final blow, but just as he lunges at Raogrimm, Cornelia, who had snuck away from the rest of the group to follow them, jumps in front of the Galka and takes the blow in his stead. Shocked at what he had just done, Ulrich flees the scene, leaving Raogrimm behind to mourn the loss of the woman he loved. Ulrich then tells the rest of the group that Raogrimm and Cornelia had fallen from a cliff. They attempted a rescue effort, but turned up nothing, as Ulrich had led them to a different location than where they had actually been. Francmage casts some suspicion on Ulrich, but decides not to look into it, as he has no desire to involve himself with the conflicts of foreigners. Having lost two of their comrades, finding nothing of interest, and facing the potential threat of the worsening weather conditions, the expedition is called off and the group leaves the northlands.
    • Shortly after their failed expedition to the northlands, three of the four remaining members of the expedition--Francmage, Iru-Kuiru, and Rabntah--are all brutally murdered under mysterious circumstances. No evidence pertaining to the identity of the culprit is found.
  • After the death of Francmage, his son Leservieus M Mistalle challenged the Temple Knight Lord Epuliphont Revemel to a duel over the lord's mocking Francmage's inglorious death. • Kam'lanaut introduces the ancient art of crystal synthesis to the masses in Jeuno. He begins to liberally teach his methods of crystal synthesis to all who are willing to learn. The Crystal War

Year Events
C.E. 862
  • The Crystal War begins.
  • The Battle of Jugner:
  • The Siege of the Kingdom of San d'Oria:
    • Commander Doggvdegg leads the Orcish army in an invasion of Ronfaure, laying siege to San d'Oria's capital over the next three weeks.
  • The Battle of Bastok:
    • Having tunneled through the mines to the north, the Quadav begin launching attacks in the heart of Bastok-controlled territory.
      • The Quadav take advantage of an accident to take back their sacred grounds in Palborough Mines. The accident kills many miners, including Almid and Sirius. A bad batch of explosives made by Cid is blamed for the explosion and the military loss of the mine itself. Cid takes responsibility for the accident and sets out to personally take care of the families affected, including adopting the orphan Midras. Only decades later, when an adventurer encounters their ghosts in the mines, is it learned that an attack by a Bomb monster set off the explosives, clearing Cid's name.
    • The Antica, who had pledged allegiance to the Shadow Lord as well, begin to make their way to Bastok through the ancient tunnels the Galka had used long ago.
    • The Bastokers seal off the tunnels leading to Zepwell Island as well as the mines, thus halting the Antican advance on the mainland and forcing the Quadav back through the mines, where they would resort to launching an attack on the heavily fortified highlands instead. The plan succeeds, but countless Galka and Humes lose their lives in the process.
  • The Battle of Garlaige Citadel:
    • Amassing their forces in Castle Oztroja, their new base in Meriphataud Mountains, the Yagudo took control of the pass through the mountains, making it impossible for any forces to get in or out of Mindartia by land. With the greatest magic users in the land cut off from battle, the chances of victory against the Shadow Lord would be slim, unless the other nations could clear the Yagudo from their path.
    • Five hundred of the greatest San d'Orian knights offer to venture though the dangerous beastmen forces and into Sauromugue Champaign. In Sauromugue Champaign, the San d'Orian knights set up their base in Garlaige Citadel, a temple from the times when San d'Oria controlled the region. Beneath the citadel, they begin digging a secret underground tunnel to traffic Tarutaru through and bring them up and around the Yagudo army.
    • Having tracked the San d'Orian knights to Garlaige Citadel, the Orcs from the north alert the Yagudo to their whereabouts. But instead of attacking right away, they wait for the right moment to strike...
    • Waiting until the moment the tunnels deep within Garlaige Citadel are near complete, the Yagudo, using a secret entrance that they had discovered, infiltrate the citadel and attack in the thousands. The knights trapped deep underground are no match and killed before they can react. Their vengeful spirits continue to wander the depths of Garlaige Citadel, attacking any who venture inside.
  • With all outside support now permanently cut off, the Shadow Lord sees a perfect opportunity to crush the powerful mages of Windurst. Sending additional forces to Mindartia, he masses 30,000 of his best troops for the impending invasion.
  • Shortly after the fall of Garlaige Citadel, the Orcs launch an invasion on the San d’Orian monastery, Davoi.
  • The Battle of Windurst:
    • The second siege of Windurst begins with a special unit of Tzee Xicu the Manifest's army, equipped with magic-resistant armor, successfully besieging Fort Karugo-Narugo, eliminating a key defense point for Windurst. The Shadow Lord's forces then invade Windurst directly, entering the nation using the magical defense devices that Tzee Xicu used to escape the town as a youth.
    • The beastmen forces march on Odin's Gate, flooding into Windurst Waters. With less than a thousand troops protecting the city, including cardians, the Tarutaru unleash their magics upon their invaders, but they rush forth, ignoring the countless spells raining down upon them. The Federation forces are overwhelmed by the beastmen, and are eventually pushed back to Windurst Walls, where the remainder of their forces makes a last stand in a devastatingly destructive battle. During this time, the lower levels of Windurst Walls are flooded.
    • Just as it looks like Windurst would be taken by the Beastmen, there appears a great light to the east. As the light dims and draws the attention of the combatants, the forms of a small Tarutaru and a giant beast appear--the long-isolated Minister of the Optistery, Karaha-Baruha, and next to him, the mighty Terrestrial Avatar Fenrir. Jumping towards the hordes of the Shadow Lord's elite, Fenrir rips through them. With each swing the great beast knocks dozens of beastmen to the ground. The hordes flee from the battlefield, the great beast striking them down as they run. Suddenly, just as quickly as the two appeared, Karaha-Baruha and Fenrir vanish without a trace.
C.E. 863
  • King Destin of San d'Oria becomes increasingly concerned about the Orcish Host's amassing forces, and becomes even more concerned after he hears of the invasion of Davoi. He knows that San d'Oria could not withstand another siege, especially with the Orcish army's current size. To avoid this imminent attack, he puts a diversionary plan into motion in which a Royal Knight is sent to Davoi carrying documents about the powerful weapon Lightbringer, said to be held by the Marquisate of Tavnazia.
  • The San d'Orian Royal Knight is captured by Orcs near Davoi, and his documents are confiscated by his Orcish captors. From these documents they learn of the powerful weapon, the Lightbringer. As hoped for, the Orcs turn their attention from San d'Oria and begin planning their assault on Tavnazia to obtain the powerful weapon.
  • Not intent on completely betraying his Tavnazian allies, the King of San d'Oria informs the Republic of Bastok, the Federation of Windurst, the Grand Duchy of Jeuno and the Empire of Aht Urhgan of the impending assault on the Tavnazian Marquisate. Bastok, Windurst and Jeuno all agree to send in soldiers along with San d'Oria to help defend the Marquisate. The Empire of Aht Urhgan, however, refuses to send any soldiers or supplies to Tavnazia, despite the fact that they have been their allies for generations. King Destin knows that if Tavnazia's endangerment cannot pull Aht Urhgan into the war, nothing will.
  • Refugees begin evacuating the Tavnazian Marquisate en masse out of fear of the impending beastmen assault. Various sea vessels in Tavnazia agree to take in a number of the refugees so that they can be taken to safety. Amongst the chaos, the young Jakoh Wahcondalo, through her mother's insistence, is accepted aboard a departing merchant vessel already overflowing with refugees. The ship escapes the doomed city but capsizes in violent weather, leaving the Mithran girl to drift on the ocean for days, clinging to a piece of the battered vessel. She is eventually picked up by the Bastore pirate Gilgamesh, rescuing her from an almost certain death.
  • The forces from the Kingdom of San d'Oria, the Republic of Bastok, the Federation of Windurst and the Grand Duchy of Jeuno arrive in the the Tavnazian Marquisate to help defend it from the oncoming Orcish invasion.
  • The Battle of Tavnazia
    • On the eve of battle, an enormous explosion erupts from the tunnels connecting Tavnazia to the Quon mainland. The source of the explosion remains mysterious, but it is believed to have been an Orcish secret weapon possibly gone awry. The blast is so powerful that it destroys the land bridge, changing Tavnazia from a peninsula into the archipelago known today. This shocking event also pushes the four nations toward a formal alliance.
    • Under cover of darkness, a single flaming projectile is fired into one of the sealed gates of the stronghold. With Tavnazia's defenses breached, a flurry of arrows is fired onto Bastok's musketeers, and the Orcs begin to flood into the stronghold. Thus begins the Orcish Host's assault on the Tavnazian Marquisate, the largest battle of the Crystal War. One hundred thousand troops reinforced with war machines and Behemoths lay siege to the Marquisate. Bastok's Musketeers are the first to respond to the breach, and the San d'Orian Royal Knights and the Mithran Mercenaries soon join them as Windurst's mages support them from the back lines with powerful offensive spells. The situation quickly grows desperate as the Behemoths tear down the stronghold's fortified walls, creating even larger breaches in Tavnazia's already weakened defenses.
    • The remaining civilians begin to flee Tavnazia using underground tunnels to escape the Orcish Host. Among these civilians are the young Aldo and his elder sister Emeline, who are cut off by Orcish soldiers before they can make it deep into the tunnels. They flee from their pursuers, but reach a dead end. Their only means of escape is a hole high up on the wall of the cave. Emeline is able to raise Aldo up so he can get through the hole, but before he can assist Emeline, the Orcs catch up with them. Seeing an Orc clawing at the hole he just came out of, he knows that his sister is surely dead, and he mournfully flees from Tavnazia.
    • During the evacuation, the bounty hunter Goldmane captures Atarefaunet, but at the cost of his partner Ismenios Cutsilver. Goldmane's wife and three children are also lost in the battle.
    • The five armies of the allied forces fight their hardest, but neither San d'Oria's skilled knights, Bastok's heavily armed musketeers, Windurst's powerful mages, nor even Jeuno's elite Ducal Guard can withstand the onslaught of the overwhelming numbers of the Orcish Army. Messengers are sent out requesting reinforcements, but they cannot arrive in time. Every last soldier is slaughtered as the Orcs stand in the ruins of the Tavnazian Marquisate in the midst of their supposed victory.
  • Prince Pieuje's exact age is unknown, but he is younger than Trion and is over 20 years old. He should have been born about here.
  • Rainemard disappears sometime during the war.
C.E. 864
  • The Battle of Jeuno
    • Emboldened by their victory at Tavnazia but with the Orcish armies greatly diminished, the Beastman Confederate presses forward towards Jeuno, gathering at the Batallia front. Reinforced with Gigas warriors which had earlier driven the Humes from Qufim Island, they besiege the fortress-city. If the beastmen prove victorious, the defeat of the Grand Duchy will leave the remaining allies divided and isolated. With the fate of Vana'diel hanging in the balance, though the ramparts of the city are left in shambles by the boulders heaved by the massive Gigas, the allies rally and launch a coordinated counterattack, securing a decisive victory. The momentum of the war shifts, and the beastmen fall back to the defensive.
  • The Battle of Xarcabard
    • Together, Kam'lanaut and Cid begin work on a secret weapon. Kam'lanaut provides Cid with the knowledge of crystal-powered engines, and with this technology Cid designs a ship able to fly in the air. He calls his new creation an airship and names his prototype “First Ship.” Yet the Allied Forces of Altana are anxious to defeat the Shadow Lord, and decide to go to battle without the weapon.
    • The Allied Forces of Altana make their final offensive into the heart of the Shadow Lord's territory: the frozen waste of Xarcabard, home to his fortress of Castle Zvahl. The finest of the Allied forces lead the charge, with their heroes at their head. An elite multi-national strike force known as the Hydra Corps is also formed. But although they are on the defensive, the beastmen are far from defeated. The strongest beastman units wait for them, backed by the fearsome Dark Kindred that form the backbone of the Shadow Lord's army.
    • As the battle rages, the allied victory is far from assured. Volker, head of the Bastokan Mythril Musketeers, proposes a daring plan: a possibly suicidal infiltration of Castle Zvahl by a small force, hoping to destroy the Shadow Lord himself. A unit is formed from the greatest champions of the five races, and backed by the Hydra Corps, they enter Zvahl. Finding their way to the throne room at the height of the fortress, they fight bravely against the Shadow Lord. With a final thrust of Volker's sword, their foe is vanquished. The Crystal War is over.
    • As the Shadow Lord falls, the remaining Kindred warriors seem to vanish, along with the ill-fated Hydra Corps. Their fate remains unknown.
