10,000 years ago | While Bahamut and his army attack Al'Taieu, a Kuluu force attacks the Vahzl Crag, destroying it. This causes a chain reaction, known as the Meltdown, that almost destroys Vana'diel. The Sea of Shu'Meyo is actually the crater of the explosion.

After 10,000 years ago | While life on Vana'diel slowly recovers from the incineration that was the Meltdown, the new races build their first civilizations. The energy from the explosion slowly finds hosts, becoming the legends of the Celestial Gods:

Its return marks year 1 of the Crystal Era (C.E.). |
The Age of Beasts
Year | Events |
---|---|
Since 10,000 years ago | While empires rise and fall elsewhere, the Middle Lands, once the center of Zilart power, is nothing but a forgotten backwater. With no functioning technology to rebuild on, it has nothing worth conquest by outside forces. Internally, its various tribes and races are too busy killing each other to bother looking outside its borders. This entire era of war is known as The Age of Beasts. The Galka and Mithra build the first stable nations in the region. Humes are relatively unknown in the Middle Lands and the Elvaan are divided into dark ages-style tribes. The nomadic Tarutaru tribes are at the mercy of their neighbors. Then, according to legend, a great star leads the Tarutaru tribes to Windurst in the pre-Crystal Era. |
C.E. ??? | The war between the Galka of Zepwell Island and the Antica beastmen begins by accident. |
